Vaccinations in the USA

This makes for interesting reading, new vaccination protocols are out in America. The new protocol will be taught at veterinary schools. Links below include an article about the protocols and then the presentation itself.

Interesting article and food for thought-I have my dogs vaccinated as pups then an annual booster for 1st year and 2nd year then no more-but I have known cases of boarding kennels refusing admission due to boosters not being "up to date"
Will have to see what my vet thinks about the american protocol,I for one will be happy to just have puppy jabs.

I recon that year upon year of vaccination can eventually damamge the immune system. Tina most dog training clubs also require to see yearly booster vaccination certificates.

you can have your dog tested to check its immunity -but it costs a lot more than the vaccination-no win situation?

Wonder if vaccinations are responsible for the massive increase in Cushings Syndrome in dogs of many breeds including ours?

Probably something you'll never know for sure.

I asked my vet this morning and she had not heard about the new USA protocol. The only worry she could forsee was the leptospirosis which only lasts 6 months on the injection in this country at the moment. When I get time I will read the USA presentation and see if I can out more.
I was pleased as she was an advocate of the BARF diet her only concerns were that people might try who don't understand that you can't just feed a bowl of raw beef mince everyday. ( this being not balanced). She said most people don't want to be bothered to learn how to feed raw properly, opening a packet or tin is the easy option.

My 7 year old Bedlington started drinking lots of water 3 days following an annual booster, other symptoms appeared and she developed Cushings. She lived for another 3 years.I have always blamed the vaccination.
Some Vets now offer Nobivac DHPPI which lasts for 3 years but you still need to have Lepto and Parainfluenza annually.

Kath there is a lot of controversy over annual vaccinations. I attended a seminar with Canine Health Concern and I now have my doubts about annual vaccinations.
Do check out this website:
