This is becoming more frightening each time-makes you baffled as to what is best for your dog.
Tina if you have a bit of time do read the article "what's really in pet food" I posted this morning. If you scroll down to the ingredients, it is quite frightening! The more you read the worse it gets. These atricles are from the USA but I think a lot of the same ingredientsi are in the food here.
There is a book out by Joan Weiskopf, she is a veterinary clinical nutritionistand she professional breeds, trains and shows bedlingtons. The name of the book is Pet Food Nation and she was asked to write it after the pet food recall scare. I bought it off Amazon. Take a look for it if you like.
i have a dalmatian polly who is 11yrs old. for the past 4yrs(winters only)shes had terrible stiffness, weve lifted her out of bed and all the rest of it! anyway i took her for routine check last yr and vet said arthritis and something spondylosis,he offerd tablets which i refused so suggested homecooked food(to long to list)i stuck with it for about 8wks its just so easy to open a bag!! i couldnt see any difference but dont think i did it long enough. im starting to think about doing it again afer reading the blog this week!oh and just to let you know pollys stiffness hasnt come this year yet which is qite bizare.
dear me it does make you think and think hard i think i will buy this book, becaues what he sayes meanes sense
I suppose we can assume that if we are having a global debate about what goes into our own mass produced food - and a lot of people are now becoing echo friendly, grow your own because of this - we should be having the same debate about what we tip into our dog bowls. Am now wondering if I shoud be opening the large sack of Royal Canine, recently bought at considerable cost, but containing the highest level of copper so far.Lesle - perhaps we should follow you example and consider raw feeding.Elaine
It seems nothing is safe. Even the raw food and least in this country USA, has antibiotics, and growth hormones in it and who knows what all. I have not eaten any meat or poultry for 30 years myself. I try to eat organic, but it is so expensive. There doesn't seem to be any easy answere.
Larrys vet has suggested royal canine he thinks he has an ulcer lesley after all his yellow bile sickness, for all, larry is sick during the night only with yellow bile, and last week blood in it. had liver function, gall bladder kidney pancreas tests, all fine, he has bland food no tit bits even doggy ones, burns, chicken, etc thinking of the lesley diet now. any comments please,
